What would happen if…
What would happen if, instead of trying to relive the past or constantly thinking about how things used to be, we focused our attention on what is happening right now? There’s no doubt that the past holds many beautiful memories. It may remind us of people we loved, places we enjoyed, and moments that shaped who we are. Those memories matter, and they will always be part of our story. But sometimes we become so focused on what used to be that we unintentionally overlook what is. The truth is, the good things in life didn’t all stay in the past. They continue to appear in new ways, often right in front of us. When we spend all our time looking backward, we risk missing the opportunities, relationships, and experiences that are unfolding today. If we pause and really look around, we might notice that there are still many good things happening in our lives. Small moments of joy. New connections. Unexpected opportunities. Quiet blessings that might go unnoticed if we are too busy comparing the present to the past. Yes, there may be people from earlier chapters of our lives who are no longer here. Their absence can leave a deep space in our hearts. But life also has a way of bringing new people into our lives, people who weren’t there before but who arrive at just the right time. They may offer support, friendship, laughter, or perspective that we need in this stage of our journey. Every season of life introduces something new. New lessons. New growth. New relationships. New memories waiting to be created. So what would happen if we allowed ourselves to fully experience the present instead of measuring it against the past? What would happen if we appreciated the people who are here now, the moments we are living today, and the possibilities that still lie ahead? Maybe we would discover that life didn’t stop being meaningful, it simply changed. And within those changes are new stories, new joys, and new reasons to be grateful.
